Bruce and Bryan Koehler grew up in the Pittsburgh area and both attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania; Bruce for Communications and Bryan for Speech Communication and Theater. In 1990, Bruce founded Pittsburgh Based Retro Media, a commercial and industrial production company specializing in on-location shooting, post production and digital editing.

North Shore Pictures became a reality for Bruce in 2006 when he decided to produce and direct his first independent feature film, "Dark Wake". Without a budget and using a local cast, Bruce produced a gritty crime drama about dead bodies appearing in the rivers in Pittsburgh.

Bruce's next film, "19 Doors", a psychological thriller, was shot entirely on location at a historic, turn of the century, hotel in Butler, Pennsylvania. "End Game" began production in the spring of 2008. View Trailer
